winter 2009

I know, I know… it’s been way too long since I’ve posted pictures. We’ve had a full winter here at the Russell5 household and I’m just now getting around to uploading pictures from my camera. So, I put together the slideshow below that includes the following events:

  • Elias’ 1/2 birthday celebration at school (January 11th) – The school allows the kids who have summer birthdays to celebrate their 1/2 birthday. Elias chose a snowman cupcake cake to take to his class for a treat, probably not a cake he would ever get on July 11th.
  • Ethan’s 7th birthday (February 6th) – After taking cookies to his class to celebrate, Ethan chose two friends from the neighborhood, Max & Jake to invite to Makutu’s Island. I just have to say I LOVE THAT PLACE. It is the BEST for little boys who love to climb & have lots of energy to spend. They had lots of fun and we finished it off with pizza & cupcakes at Barro’s (where else?)
  • Ethan’s musical @ school – The Unity Tree; he is the cutest puppy ever.
  • Ethan & Ryan put together his new skateboard that he picked out for his birthday.
  • A sweet friend hooked us up for tickets to the NBA All-Star Jam Session on Valentine’s Day.  Not exactly the most romantic date ever, but it was fun.
  • Jackson’s concert @ school – Sing, America, Sing; he did a GREAT job. (I’ll post some videos soon, too.)

moving update – the short version

The CPAC assessment team concluded that we would likely be very successful at planting a new church. But shortly thereafter, the Orchard Group decided the project in Seattle is not a good fit for their organization at this time. Therefore we will not be working with them, but plans move forward and we will be researching other partnerships to work with.
As of now, our plans include heading up to Seattle when school gets out at the end of May. We will likely pack up all our things into POD-type moving/storage, then take up our trailer to spend some time vacationing at the Sequoia and Yosemite national parks on our way up to WA.  We plan to live out of our trailer for the majority of the summer as we get a feel for the city and nail down the specific area where we will land. We hope to find that area by the end of summer so that we can get the boys settled in the school they will attend. Ryan will continue his work with Fireproof Ministries through the summer and until we have our partnerships lined up to begin working on the church plant.
So, there’s the summary. Please let us know if you ever have any questions and we’ll do our best to answer them. We understand how it all seems a bit mysterious and confusing as things continue to change, but we continue to attempt to follow where God is leading.

el presidente buddies

Monday = NO SCHOOL so it also = ‘hang with buddies’. Each kid got to invite a friend then it was off to Sonic, the park & then to the pool. 6 hours with 6 boys! Moving may be tough when it comes to saying good-bye

we can’t decide

Elias switched from half-day kindergarten to FULL day with the spring semester. Just recently we discovered that every day he takes time to go visit his ‘old’ teacher, classmates and best buddy (who also lives in the neighborhood – donny). 1-5 times might be cute. BUT every day? is that sad? depressing? weird? We tend to lean toward ‘cute’. His ‘old teacher’ thinks it is adorable and she misses him as well. Who knows, he may have the makings of a class president.
